a man chases two would be burglars. >> heavy rain is falling in spots. more wet weather is coming. good morning, central florida. it is 6:00 a.m. on this wednesday, january 27. i'm david hall. >> i'm bridgett ellison. we have already seen several crashes, including one that has paft beachline shut down. we want to get over to the team coverage with traffic anchor. some trouble brewing out there. >> we knew this yesterday. we would see heavy showers, even thunderstorms and you are seeing a ton of crashs. >> a lot going on already. we are not even really into rush hour just yet. >> we'll see more tomorrow. let's get you to it with the radar. as we do, we are pinpointing where you are seeing some of the heaviest rain, where you see the deeper orange and red, that's nearly two inches an hour. it is moving to the north and northeast. i can mention every community because all of us are covered up with rain. there is downtown orlando where we have many major roadways

i-4, the 408, the beachline, the turnpike all covered up. here's where the heaviest rain is heading next. as we pinpoint some communities, apopka within five minutes. altamonte springs in seminole county within seven minutes. winter springs within 14 minutes. also in oviedo within 18 minutes you can expect more of the heavier rain. moderate rain on top of palm bay, floridana beach, rockledge to the kennedy space center, cocoa beach, titusville along i-95 covered up with heavy rain. new smyrna beach, daytona beach, we did take you to street level earlier. lake catherine, umatilla, howie in the hills, leesburg, mascot, all covered up with heavy rain. 100% coverage today. warming to 73 with lots of clouds and rain. more rain tomorrow and there is gusts. we'll talk about the timing when this stuff moves out. let's head back over to amy who is busy with a traffic alert.

>> there is a lot happening right now. you can see all of these accidents cropping up. over on the beachline in brevard, we have the eastbound lanes closed down right by challenger parkway with a multiple car crash. some newer ones that just happened. we have a right lane blocked on the eastbound side of i-4 near orange blossom trail and then again on the westbound side of i-4 by para. conditions not good. that is your check on traffic. back over to you. >> now for breaking news from overnight in orange county as a man is shot after confronting two would be burglars. the whole thing happened after deputies say he started chasing them in the middle of the neighborhood. you can see the scene on your screen. this happened late last night on park commons drive off moss park road. mark lehman is there live for us. those two suspects are still on the run. what is the latest with the investigation.

those men is armed. it has ended with the victim being shot. the search is on for those suspects. our cameras were here as the victim was taken to the hospital. deputies say this started when he spotted two men trying to break into his vehicle. when the 30-year-old confronted the suspect, they took off running. the victim chased after them through the moss park common neighborhoods. one of the suspects opened fire, shooting the victim once. the two men made their way sped away from the area. description of those two men men. we are told the victim is recovering from his injuries. his injuries are non-life threatening. because the two men are suspected as part of an auto burglary here, i did digging to find some recent crime trends in this neighborhood. i'll let you know what i found coming up at 6:30. >> breaking overnight, one person is dead after a crash on

the crash happened before 10:00 last night in palm coast near the palm coast parkway, causing closed. those lanes have since reopened. so far, no word on what may have caused that crash. >> a man accused of trying to kill two deputies will make his first appearance before a judge. deputies say they were trying to break up a fight between sky lar francis when francis started to attack. police say francis broke away and started hitting the deputy in the back of the head with a collapsible bahton. deputy marie skinner juchd in to help. both managed to subdue the couple and call for backup. francis is charged with two counts of attempted murder and johnson is charged with resusing arrest. overnight, wayne ivy told news 6 both deputies are expected to be ok. the deputy is expected to be in the hospital for at least the next few days. >> this veteran behind me will

this is after he was badly injured when his links bus was carjacked leaving him with a bruised face and bleeding in the brain. seminole county deputies say the driver was strapping doctor's wheelchair in when this man juchd inside the bus bus. >> the man jumped on the bus and said he was taking the bus, put it in drive and took off. my dad hit on the metal of the bus face first. then he flew out of the wheelchair. >> detectives say he ditched the bus a few blocks later before he was caught and arrested. he is facing kidnapping and carjacking charges. >> a firefighter will spend a year probation and have to pay $500 in fines after prosecutors say he damaged several cars driving drunk. according to the sentinel,

no contest to leaving the scene of an accident. we told you this story in september when police say steiner went on a rampage smashing into 18 cars in the parking garage. so far, no word if he mr. l face any disciplinary action. >> the police chief will discuss the police department end of the year review. city leaders say the review will give an in-depth look at opd. it will also update the department's focus for this year, 2016. this presentation starts at 9:00 this morning at the orlando police department training facility. >> students in volusia county have to wait longer to find out if they'll have to wear uniforms next year. at their meeting, the school board voted to add blue jeans to the list of clothing and delaying the final vote to another day. the policy has to be brought back t. district has 28 days before leaders can try to

threat will be strong wind gusts and flooding. we'll talk about that ahead. >> you have been pushing out the alerts. the easiest way to stay up to date on the weather today or any time, search wkmg in your app store. >> now breaking news from out west. five people shot, two are dead after a gunman opened fire at a homeless camp. >> police say this is part of a bigger crisis. >> the police chief admits the area where this whole thing took place has been out of control for almost two decades. he says last night a gunman walked into a homeless camp and then started shooting. five victims were later found, two did not survive. two others had to be rushed into surgery with critical injuries. it was a few weeks ago seattle's mayor declared a state of emergency saying the problem with the homeless in that city is out of control.

crisis, the likes we have not seen since the great depression. the executive order was not a gimmick. >> the mass shooting had part of the area on lock down. they don't think anyone else is in danger. we'll let you know as soon as we get any new information. back to you. >> investigators in marion county trying to figure out what led to a man being shot and killed inside a home in silver springs. detectives say 33-year-old richard hutchinson was found dead inside a home on northeast 167 court yesterday. we are told hutchinson was involved in some sort of fight before this shooting. deputies say they are questioning people but so far no one has been arrested in this case. hutchinson's death is the third murder investigation going on there in marion county in the past three days. investigators there are extremely busy. on monday a woman was found dead in her home on ocala. on sunday, a man shot and killed

detectives say none of these crimes are connected. >> a bill to mandate recess for elementary school students has taken a big step towards county. requiring 20 minutes each day for recess. schools cannot withhold recess for academic reasons. many moms have been pushing for this change saying students need to release energy. it gives them a break from school work. last year a resolution passed, recommending recess but not requiring it. >> for week, trash piling up with many people saying it wasn't taken care of. commissioners are demanding answers. waste management crew say county workers dealt with more than 60,000 calls since they switched to the automated pickup service. they say the reason for the delayed pickup was a mixup between uninformed homeowners and the new dispose disposal employees. employees.

after wildlife workers pulled up coyote traps, officials say the traps could be coming back. according to the indian harbor beach, new evidence was presented at a meeting that may allow workers to continue efforts to trap coyotes. the change would come with the understanding that any trapped kai crow tees would be relocated and not put down. police say they are working to finalize these details. last week fwc said they were pulling the traps because they didn't believe the coyotes were a nuisance. custom agents received an unusual surprise after they stopped a man on a flight from cuba. >> agents arrested this guy after they say he tried smuggling birds in his pants. customs and border patrol agents arrested this man. this was earlier this month at miami international airport. the passenger was hiding six exotic birds in a fanny pack and three more birds in his pants. the birds were turned over to the department of agriculture quarantine --

there is a large part of orange county, in fact, most all of orange county seeing that heavy rain. here it is down to the south and southwestern zones near the attractions and then more of this moderate to heavy rain, pinpointing it north and east at about 25 miles an hour. that's how it is traveling. geneva within one minute. you are already seeing rain but heavier stuff within one minute there in deltona, within 12 minutes, more of the heavy rain and then down to the south in palm bay, melbourne, floridana beach, mico, some of the moderate to heavy rain and light to moderate rain where you see the green and yellow for satellite beach and cocoa beach. titusville, meritt island, into parts of flagler beach, down to the south, daytona beach in volusia county. inland, into lake county, lake catherine, umatilla, mount plymouth all seeing a good pit of rain coming down. i could mention every community, all of us seeing rain.

we have multiple things going on. a little bit of improvement here on the beachline in brevard, we still are dealing with a big issue over by challenger parkway. now one eastbound lane is open. you still might want to consider going 520 over to colonial drive this morning. that one is going on. i-4 is really struggling. we have the right lane blocked. eastbound by orange blossom trail. if you are going to be traveling central florida parkway right over by john young. it looks like we have a lane blocked there as well. a lot going on. that's your check on traffic. back over to you. >> you have been telling us about that crash on the beachline. we just got this picture from the scene. check it out. we are told three vehicles including this tanker were involved in this crash. four people were injured. traffic on one eastbound lane is getting by. you can expect to see big time delays in that area so please be careful. back to breaking news from overnight in orange county as a

hospital after an attempted burglary. >> deputies say the man was shot. it happened along park commons drive off the road near moss park elementary. mark lehman joins us there live. how is the victim doing, mark? >> thankfully, his injuries are non-life threatening. it appears he will be ok after a confrontation. it happened behind me in this neighborhood down lake heart drive. notice the line of cars, all this happening right outside the victim's home. now, this was the scene where you can see a large response by deputies to the moss park commons neighborhood. the sheriff said the victim spotted two people trying to break into his vehicle around 11:30. that's when the 30-year-old confronted the suspect. they then took off running. the victim chased after them. it was during that chase when deputies say one of the suspects opened fire, shooting the victim at least once. the two men jumped into a nearby vehicle and sped away. as we come back live here, since

into cars, i did some digging and found there were at least seven burglaries dating back to last week in this general area, although none specifically in this neighborhood. i'm going to be asking deputies if there is any connection they think between those crimes and what happened here last night. we are working to get answers about the two suspects. so far a description has been asked -- hasn't been released. >> two people in the hospital after a bad crash in brevard county. police in palm bay say it happened after a driver ran a red light and hit another car. one of the drivers had to be air lifted to the hospital. the other went by ambulance. we are waiting to find out more about their conditions. >> now to another dangerous drive on the beachline after troopers say a man was able to get on the highway and drive the wrong way for miles. this scene was yesterday after

arnold wickham started going west near dallas boulevard. he ended up traveling for eight miles before he was pulled over. troopers say he caused two crashes in the middle of rush hour as other drivers were left traffic. amazingly, we are told there were no injuries. we did speak to wickham's son, he said his father was confused and had no idea how he got on the highway the wrong way. troopers are recommending his license is reviewed. tallahassee. they are hoping to get results and make area highways safer for everything. they are lobbying for the passage of chloe's law. kirsten is live at ucf. kirsten, those students are on their way. >> reporter: that's right. in the last 30 minutes we watched as 80 students packed to a bus on their way to tallahassee.

talk with lawmakers and push a new pub for chloe's law. that is named after a student who fell asleep and crashed into a retention pond and died after that crash. these students this morning walked on to the bus. they are asking for more guard rails on state roads like the 408 that border bodies of water. we spoke with students before they left. here's what one of them had to say. >> this is an opportunity for us to do something important that will save lives by putting guard rails up around the state. it is a good thing to memorialize chloe's, this will let her know from heaven and her family know she will never be forgotten. >> darren soto has helped in the fight. he will be introducing the bill that will require the department

we have had heavy rain move in overnight. later this morning, that will include the chance for the storm. troy bridges is pinpointing all this right down to your neighborhood. he'll have another check of the forecast in less than three minutes. >> breaked news in an ongoing standoff at an organ wildlife. several people arrested and one person is dead after these people were confronted at a traffic stop. police say the traffic stop happened near the refuge as some of the members were heading to a community meeting. it is still unclear at this time who shot first. the group has been occupying the refuge since earlier this month. >> later today dozens expected to gather at the air force station to remember the three astronauts killed during the apollo one tragedy.

the three dieted when there was a fire during a launch pad test. tonight at 6:00, the 45th space wing will hold a ceremony to honor these men. somber milestone. tomorrow marks a 30th anniversary of the challenger disaster. it was on january 28 of 1986 when the shuttle broke apart a minute after launching from the space coast. all seven astronauts on board were killed. >> a break-in caught on camera. a man with an eye for pricey cosmetics got away with thousands of dollars in botox. here's video from the break-in. he even had on santa hat during the theft. police say he used a crowbar to get in and went straight for the doctor's office. when he didn't find anything first, he headed to other parts with wr he ended up with syringes and botox. botox.

it happened right here in this neighborhood off moss park road. the deputy caught the suspects trying to break into his car. he started chasing them. that's what deputies say the men pulled out a gun and shot him. we are told the victim will be ok, those two suspects still remain on the run. >> a group of students are on the way to tallahassee. they are looking to get results and get a new law passed in honor of a former student at ucf. dozens of students boarded a bus in the last two hours to head to the capital. they are fighting for chloe's law. it is named in honor of a 21-year-old student who died in a crash and that bill is set to be up for discussion later today. we'll let you know on our website, clickorlando.com. >> we have had big issues all morning, take a look at this, it looks like all eastbound lanes on i-4 have been blocked off
